Brewing & Storing
Just Us! recommends the following process for brewing a medium strength coffee at home:
- Water is 96% of the coffee so the water the customer uses will affect the final taste of the coffee.
- The grind is another important factor in brewing and can have a big effect on the final taste. If it is too fine it will be to strong, and over extract the coffee. If it is too coarse it will be too weak and under extract the coffee.
Drip coffee?
-
Place a paper filter (we recommend using unbleached filters) into the brewing chamber.
-
Use 18-21 grams of coffee (2 rounded tablespoons) per 12 oz cup
-
Place the water in the well below the lid and put the jug onto the hot plate below the drip outlet.
-
Press the "on" switch.
- When the coffee stops running through the drip outlet, the machine can be turned off and the coffee served.
- Coffee shouldn't be left on the element for longer than 20 minutes as this will spoil the flavour of the coffee.
-
We recommend putting the coffee immediately into a Thermos for optimum quality.
French Press (Bodum)
- Place coffee grounds in the cylinder (the best type to use is regular-coarse).
- Boil water and pour it slowly over the coffee grounds.
- Place the plunger on top of the cylinder and allow the coffee grounds to steep in the hot water for a 2-4 minutes. (Again depends on how strong you want it)
- Once the coffee grounds have steeped, gently push down on the plunger.
- The mesh filter push the coffee grounds to the bottom; separating the coffee liquid from the coffee grounds.
- Pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the smooth taste of a French Press brewed coffee.
-
You can expect to have grounds at the bottom of your cup and this is normal.
What is the best way to keep my Just Us! Coffee fresh?
When storing coffee, the main enemies of freshness and flavour are oxygen, moisture, light and time. So the best way to store your coffee is in its whole bean form in a dark cupboard or drawer at room temperature. Grind your coffee just before you brew it and only buy your supplies a week or two at a time. We don’t recommend storing coffee in the fridge because it so readily picks up other flavours and aromas. If you must keep your coffee for more than a few weeks, it is probably best to put it in the freezer in an air tight container.
