JUDES (Just Us! Development & Education Society)

Part of the commitment to 100% Fair Trade and organic is the Just Us! commitment to education. In 2006, Just Us! became the founding partner of JUDES – the Just Us! Development and Education Society. JUDES started out with the idea of promoting Fair Trade as a model for third world development, but quickly found the line pretty blurry between issues facing small-scale producers in the third world and local farmers or small business people. Now, JUDES works across Atlantic Canada to raise awareness of Fair Trade and responsible purchasing, connecting consumers and producers for social, economic, and environmental justice.

JUDES and Just Us! have collaborated to create Canada’s first and only Fair Trade Museum. This unique museum uses interactive displays, games, video, and photographs to tell the story of Fair Trade from the farmers’ viewpoint. Watch our Coffee Comes Alive in our casita (small house, as a Mexican coffee farmer might have) and learn what it takes to be a conscious consumer. Admission is free. The museum is located at our Just Us! Coffeehouse and Roastery in Grand Pré.

Want to learn more about Fair Trade? Step into one of the most beautiful places with the warmest and most welcoming people. Join our Wisdom of the Mountains tour, as we get active and leave the resorts behind for this eco-adventure to visit the real Mexico. This small-group, guided, responsible travel experience respects local peoples and the environment.

Contact us to learn more about our projects and activities, Fair Trade, responsible purchasing, trips to Mexico, and how to get involved. Email us if you would like to receive our quarterly e-newsletter with upcoming events and news.

Be a Conscious Consumer

Read the labels of the things you buy! Learn more about where your favourite products are made and how. Buy fair trade, organic coffee, or other fair trade products. Look for the Transfair logo to make sure it is certified Fair Trade.
Speak to your local coffee shop or store manager. Find out if they carry fair trade products. If they do not, explain the concept and benefits of fair trade, including the fact that it makes good business sense! Make sure you have your facts in order, and the names and phone numbers of fair trade suppliers.
